On Saturday 6^th June Forrester HS attended out first Corstorphine Fair. It was a great day meeting lots of local residents and sharing the successes of the school over the last 12 months. The tombola run by our wonderful Parent Council was mobbed all through the afternoon and our Sports Leaders ably demonstrated the sport of Boccia to willing participants (when they weren’t competing against each other). Our fabulous singers from Six the Musical (get your tickets for the limited performances this week) appeared for a spontaneous performance and our YPI winners shared information about the work they have done for local groups and their anticipation of heading to the National Showcase event in the coming days. Corstorphine we’ll see you again in two years!

This improvement has been part of a years long journey for the learners and wider community at Forrester High School and we as a staff are committed to continuing to ensure the highest quality of learning and teaching alongside our wide curriculum offer. Forrester High School would like to invite parents of P7s who are interested in sending their child here to an open afternoon on Friday 7^th November from 1:25pm until 3:25pm. You will have the chance to tour the school, see some of our facilities and ask staff questions around the curriculum and learner experience.

We are proud of the achievements and successes of our young people and seek to support them during their time with us to reach their goals and aspirations. Our examination results at Higher and Level 6 are among the best in the city, and our young people routinely go on to a wide range of positive destinations when they leave us. As a school we are committed to delivering the best possible experience to our young people and helping them to thrive with all our work underpinned by our core values of Respect, Believe and Achieve.

This week represents the end of Ramadan for our Muslim pupils who have been observing prayers and fasting and the celebration of Eid al-Fitr. On behalf of the staff here at Forrester I would like to extend our wish that Eid al-Fitr brings peace, happiness and prosperity to all. Eid Mubarak.

I am honoured to take up post as Headteacher of Forrester High School and look forward to working with you as a parent body in supporting each and every young person within the school community to reach their fullest potential. The staff and pupils have made me feel very welcome in my first few days here and I am keen to get to know them better as time goes on.

This term is a pivotal one for all our learners, with senior pupils preparing for their assignments and exams as well as some of them beginning to make preparations for moving on to the next part of their journey whether that be higher or further education, an apprenticeship or moving into employment. There are a wide range of supports on offer within the school to assist with this next step so please get in touch with the relevant Pupil Support Leader if you are unsure what your young person should be doing at the current time.

Pupils in S2 and S3 are also making course choices and should be using all the information they have about what they want to do in the future and what they need for it, how they are doing in their classes and what pathways are available in the different subject areas. They are meeting with their Pupil Support Leaders to get appropriate guidance through this process.

For everyone within the school this is an exciting time of year and an exciting time for the Forrester High School learning community. We will soon be welcoming some of the P7 pupils up for the first part of the transition process and we will be sharing our core values of ‘Respect, Believe, Achieve’ with them and ensuring that they feel a valued part of the school community as they begin their journey with us.

A survey of over 1000 parents and carers in ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ found that most parents want to better understand the digital world their children are experiencing in order to keep their child safe. Our event will provide you with information and advice on three of the biggest challenges of the digital world children are living in:

. Pornography

. Nudes (sharing intimate images)

. Online sexual harm

The purpose of the event is for you not just to come away more informed, but to be provided with practical advice and tools to help your child navigate these online challenges.

We will be delivering the event 4 times throughout March 2025, tailoring the event to particular audiences.

Wednesday the 5th of March, 2025, 7pm-8pm – online – parents and carers of S1 and above children

Tuesday the 18th of March 2025, 7pm-8pm – online – parents and carers of P5/6 children

Tuesday the 25th of March 2025, 7pm-8pm – online – parents and carers of children with additional special needs

Wednesday the 26th of March 2026, 7pm-8pm – in person , Edinburgh Location TBC (hopefully Drummond CHS) – parents and carers of S1 and above children

PLEASE NOTE: This event will be discussing sexual harm. This event is not appropriate for children to attend.
